Alameda Health System announced today that OakCare Medical Group (OMG), that has served AHS for over 20 years, has decided to unify with Alameda Health Partners (AHP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alameda Health System (AHS). The unification will establish a new medical group to provide future quality physician care for AHS.

“This is an important landmark moment for AHS in forwarding its journey to becoming an integrated, patient centered health care system with a focus on population health management while building and expanding best practices and enhancing AHS physician leadership,” said Dr. Ghassan Jamaleddine, CMO of AHS. “I am so proud of our OMG & AHP physicians, and very thankful for the AHS Board of Trustees and executive leadership.”

Since 1995, OMG has provided a dedicated team of clinical providers who have served in leadership roles within the organization and has developed high-quality residency programs in emergency and internal medicine, which have become nationally acclaimed for the quality of training and the graduates who carry out the AHS mission.

“This is a momentous step for AHS. The providers in OakCare and AHP have worked diligently together to build a unified provider group that will serve the patients of AHS very well,” said Bob Savio MD, OakCare President. “We anticipate that this structure will provide a way to recruit more physicians and continue to improve clinical consistency and standards of care across this growing health system. We are proud of our past, and very excited about the future.”

Alameda Health Partners was established in 2014 to advance the physician voice in strategic and operational planning and to provide quality and world class medical care to the patients of Alameda County. In addition, AHP has played an important role in hiring physicians in various specialties, including Orthopaedics, Anesthesia, Urology, ENT, Radiology and Hospitalist Medicine.

“One of the key benefits of uniting OakCare Medical Group with Alameda Health Partners is the opportunity to strengthen and align the physician voice within the health system,” said Nicholas Pirnia MD, AHP President. “AHS is transforming into a larger, patient-centered medical system and the physicians will be central to the strategic and operational planning needed to achieve this goal. It is my hope that the unification will strongly facilitate this transformation and allow us to serve our patients better.”

The unification of the two entities was the result of multiple months of a collaborative effort that included physician leaders and administrators from both organizations. The new agreement brings AHS physicians under one unified physician group which will better align with the strategic goals and policies of AHS and its mission of caring, healing, teaching, serving all.
